We have been eating a lot of chicken dishes lately, so I decided to make a Beef dish. I was going to make Filipino Bistek (I’ll be blogging about that soon), but then decided to go Chinese old school with Beef and Broccoli, with a twist.
- 1 tbsps cornstartch
- 1 tbsps soy sauce
- 2 tbsps water
- 1 tbsps brown sugar
- 1 lb of flank steak
- 5 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 of medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 scallions, chopped
- 1 cup of Shitake mushrooms, sliced
- 1 bag of broccoli and cauliflower
- 1 cup chopped pineapple
- 1 ladle of soy sauce
- 2 turns of the wok of Oyster sauce
- 4 dashes of pepper
- olive oil
First cut the flank steak in bite size pieces. Make sure to cut against the grain.
Combine all the marinade ingredients and pour over meat and let marinade for 30 minutes.
Heat up wok to medium heat. Add olive oil.
Add onion. Sauté until soft.
Add Shitake mushrooms. Sauté until soft.
Add minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant.
Add steak. Increase heat to medium high. Cook until almost cooked through.
Add pepper. No need t0 add salt as we are cooking with soy sauce. Sodium!
Add 1 ladle of soy sauce and 2 turns of the wok of Oyster sauce. Sauté for 2 minutes.
Add broccoli and cauliflower.
Cook through for another 5 minutes.
Serve with Rice, I prefer Brown rice.
Looking forward to leftovers at lunch tomorrow 🙂
